Another Week in New York
FADE IN
EXT. A NEW YORK STREET – AROUND 3 A.M.
The shot opens on the New York City Skyline and pans down onto a deserted street in Alphabet City. All of a sudden we hear tires screaching off-camera.
CUT TO:
INT. CAR
CARL is behind the wheel and smiling. He is drunk, he should not be driving. Next to him is DIANE. She is in a slinky dress that’s half off her shoulder. She is also drunk, and very frisky. She’s all over CARL, nuzzling his neck, kissing him. The music in the car is LOUD.
DIANE
(Passionate)
Come on Carl...
CARL
(Trying to focus on the road)
Hold on Diane—
DIANE
(Almost in his lap)
I can’t wait…
CARL
(Still focusing)
We’re almost there.
DIANE
(Groping Carl)
Feels like you’re ready now...
DIANE moans and licks CARL’s face. She effortlessly slides on top of him and starts to kiss him passionately. CARL gives in for a second, but then realizes he’s got to drive the car.
CARL
Diane cut it out.
CUT TO:
EXT. THE SAME NEW YORK STREET
As CARL makes a right turn he sees a COUPLE crossing the street, right in front of the car. CARL yanks the wheel, avoids the COUPLE, and piles into a trash can. As the car keeps going, the trash can soars through the air, spins around and as it does so, the contents of the trash can fly into the middle of the street.
The camera follows what looks like a basketball as it’s jettisoned out of the spinning trash can. It takes a few hops and finally stops in in front of the standing COUPLE, but the camera is far enough away that we don’t see what the object is.
The car skids to a halt.
CUT TO:
INT. CAR
DIANE
(Giggling)
That was far out.
CARL
(Moaning, rubbing his shoulder)
Fuck.
DIANE
(Laughing)
That garbage can ain’t doing so well.
They check themselves to make sure nothing’s broken, unbuckle their seatbelts, and stumble out of the car.
EXT. THE SAME NEW YORK STREET – CONTINUOUS
The COUPLE is standing in the middle of the street, frozen. The MAN is hugging the WOMAN as she looks away from the pile of garbage at her feet, her head in his shoulder. They’re both distraught, we don’t know why.
CARL, as he stares at the busted car, takes out his phone and makes a call. While he does so, DIANE looks over at the pile of garbage near the COUPLE. Her expression suddenly changes from smirky drunk to a look of urgency and fear. She walks briskly towards the COUPLE, squats down, throws a few items aside, and as the camera pans down we see she’s looking at a severed head, whose ears have been cut off.
